To serve as your Member of Provincial Parliament and to work alongside you to deliver results for our community has been an honour of a lifetime.
Parkdale—High Park is a unique and special community. It is the community that welcomed my family and me with open arms when we moved to Canada. The kindness of neighbours and support from local services helped us rebuild our lives. The most powerful gift we received was a sense of belonging and hope for a secure future.
I always knew my life was going to be about service—to community and to Canada. To give back to the people and country who gave me and my family so much.
During my time in the legislature—with two strong mandates from the people of Parkdale—High Park—I fiercely held the government to account, and never forgot that I was there to get things done for our community. I always put constituents first as I collaborated and worked across party lines in order to deliver. I was particularly humbled to have the confidence of my MPP colleagues from all parties to serve fairly as Deputy Speaker for the 43rd Parliament of the Ontario Legislature.
While the work done has led to several recognitions along the way—such as being named Toronto’s Best MPP by NOW Magazine readers multiple times, Toronto’s Best Local Politician by Toronto Star readers, a Parliamentary Champion for Mental Health by the Canadian Alliance of Mental Illness and Mental Health and more—it was the direct feedback from constituents that shaped my approach and motivated me to strive to be a better representative.
While my time as your MPP has come to an end, be assured, I remain committed as ever to working together with you for the good of our community, province, and country.
Finally, to my staff and to the students and volunteers who helped make our team so impactful: thank you for your dedication and service to our community.
